Abstract

Research "The Function of Music in the Art of Bridal Silat in Benteng Hulu Village, Mempura District, Siak Regency, Riau Province". Aims to find out the function of music in the art of bridal silat in Benteng Hulu Village, Mempura District, Siak Regency, Riau Province. The theory used is the theory of Oha Graha (1997:44), which discusses the function of accompaniment music, namely as a rhythm provider, providing illustrations or descriptions of the atmosphere, helping to reinforce the expression of motion, and providing stimulation. The method used in this study is a descriptive research method using qualitative methods, the subjects in this study are artists or as art coaches, namely Ucok Uban, 2 long drum instrument players, 1 trumpet player, 1 gong player, 2 fighter person. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews, and documentation. From the results of the research that the author has done about the function of the bridal silat accompaniment music, that the accompaniment music functions as a giver of rhythm because it regulates the tempo and also becomes a command/guide tool for the movements of a fighter, providing illustrations or descriptions of the atmosphere because the fighter's spontaneous movements adjust with the accompaniment of the music played, emphasizes the expression of movement because the accompaniment music is an expression of every spontaneous movement of the fighter to become more enthusiastic in moving, and provides stimulation for the fighter to perform movements so as to give the fighter a spirit. Because it can be seen from the bridal silat offering that music plays an important role in the offering.
