Abstract

ROLE OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOR ORGANIZATION (ILO) IN PROTECTING INDONESIAN MIGRANT WORKERS ABSTRACT By : Reckxy Mandala The many problems of migrant workers are very serious problems that must be addressed quickly. Indonesian migrant workers are often exploited, starting from registration, recruitment, to placement until they return to Indonesia. Data from Indonesian electronic media for 2016-2018 states that female workers in various regions in Indonesia still experience discrimination in the workplace. There are various forms of discrimination, ranging from inequality in employment rights to sexual harassment. Employment issues for Indonesian migrant workers are protected by the ILO whose role and function is to protect all workers who experience problems. So the purpose of this study is to determine the role of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in protecting Indonesian migrant workers. The nature of the research in this thesis uses a sociological juridical method, namely law as a rule or norm which is a benchmark for human behavior that is considered appropriate. Then use a normative approach. The method of drawing conclusions in this study is to draw a conclusion deductively, namely drawing conclusions from things that are general to things that are specific. In general, the results of the study explain that the ILO has carried out its duties as an international organization through its efforts to encourage the Indonesian government to ratify and implement ILO conventions into Indonesian policies. The ILO seeks to promote the empowerment and protection of migrant workers by collaborating with various policy makers such as government agencies, trade unions, migrant worker organizations, and community organizations in Indonesia. The policy of the Government (Riau Province) in dealing with problems related to Indonesian migrant workers, especially those in Riau Province, is selection and recruitment by the Riau Province Manpower, Transmigration and Population Office. In an effort to strengthen the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, the ILO has supported national and local partners, one of which is Political Commitment and Policy Change.
