Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine: (1) the learning motivation of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 4 Pekanbaru in the academic year 2020/2021, (2) the learning outcomes of science learning for class VIII students of SMP Negeri 4 Pekanbaru in the academic year 2020/2021, and (3) the relationship between motivation to learn with science learning outcomes for grade VIII SMP Negeri 4 Pekanbaru students in the 2020/2021 academic year. This research is a quantitative research using a correlational approach. The research population was eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Pekanbaru which consisted of 8 classes. The sample of this study amounted to 172 students. Classes VIII3 and VIII4 were used as trial classes. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Of the 35 items tested, there are 28 items that are valid with a reliability value of 0.836. Data analysis in this study used the correlation analysis technique Pearson Product Moment (PPM). The results of this study indicate that: (1) the average value of learning motivation of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 4 Pekanbaru is 70.49 in the medium category, (2) the average learning outcomes of science learning outcomes of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 4 Pekanbaru is 83.74 with a high category, and (3) between the X variable (Learning Motivation) and Y (Science Learning Outcomes) there is a fairly high correlation with a correlation index (rxy) of 0.650% and the contribution of learning motivation to science learning outcomes of 42.25 %. This is also evidenced by the magnitude of the value of tcount than the value of ttable or 11.138 > 1.652 which means H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, and a significance value of 0.000 which means it is smaller than the value of (5%) or 0.000 < 0.05 . This means that there is a positive and significant relationship between learning motivation and science learning outcomes for class VIII SMP Negeri 4 Pekanbaru students in the 2020/2021 academic year
