Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of patience in parents who have children with special needs in Dumai City. This type of research is a qualitative research with a phenomenological model. The data collection techniques using semi-structured interviews and observation. While the data analysis technique is done by data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results showed that there is patience in parents who have children with special needs in Dumai City. Patience is seen from various religious perspectives so patience also has many meanings, namely being patient in controlling oneself, trying to overcome problems not running away from problems, not complaining when getting into trouble, always working hard to achieve goals. The results experienced by the five informants in conducting this research, where the first to fifth informants were able to control themselves in dealing with their children, it’s just that in different ways, they were able to hold back their emotions when their children made mistakes and were able to control their emotions. From the beginning the five informants were able to accept the fate and provisions given by God that they were destined to have children with special needs and could be calm in dealing with these children.
