Abstract
Euphemism in the Editorial of the Pekanbaru Tribune Newspaper. Euphemism is a form of expression to soften words that are considered rude or inappropriate to be spoken or heard by others. Euphemisms are closely related to language that exists in every human life and have become manners or politeness in language. This euphemism is also often encountered in various mass media, one of which is newspapers. The formulation of the problem of this research, namely, What is the form of euphemism in the editorial of the September 2020 edition of the Tribun Pekanbaru daily newspaper? and how does euphemism function in the editorial of the September 2020 edition of the daily newspaper Tribun Pekanbaru? The theories used in this study are theories related to the use and function of euphemisms. This research uses a descriptive method. Euphemisms in the editorial of the Pekanbaru Tribune newspaper contained euphemisms in the form of the use of abbreviations, loan words, foreign terms, metaphors, and periphrases. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of describing, analyzing, interpreting, and concluding the forms of euphemisms contained in the September edition of the Tribun Pekanbaru daily newspaper editorial, and to describe, analyze, interpret, and conclude the functions of euphemisms contained in the newspaper editorials. The September 2020 edition of Tribun Pekanbaru daily. This research is expected to increase the reader's knowledge about semantic and stylistic studies, especially on aspects of the form and function of euphemisms. The method used in this research is descriptive. The results obtained by researchers, namely from 26 editorials in the September 2020 edition of the newspaper Tribun Pekanbaru, researchers found 52 data on the form and function of euphemisms.
