Abstract

A hit and run is a traffic accident in which the perpetrator is not responsible, by leaving the victim alone without stopping the vehicle being driven. It is undeniable that hit-and-run happens frequently in the jurisdiction of the Rokan Hulu Police. This shows that there are still many shortcomings regarding facilities and discipline in traffic. The formulation of the problem in this study is what are the factors causing the occurrence of a hit-and-run in the jurisdiction of the Rokan Hulu Police and how are the efforts to prevent a hit-and-run in the jurisdiction of the Rokan Hulu Police. The research method is a sociological legal method, namely legal research to find out whether the factors and efforts made by the police for the prevention of hit-and-run The results of the research and discussion show that: The factors causing the occurrence of hit-and-run consist of two factors, namely; personal factors, namely the negligence of vehicle drivers and the public assume that hit-and-run is an ordinary accident and situational factors, namely because the perpetrators of the hit-and-run want to escape from legal responsibility. Meanwhile, for the prevention of hit-and-run using pre-emptive efforts, namely in the form of environmental guidance and development, preventive efforts, namely by conducting counseling, giving traffic tickets for traffic violations, increasing police operations (raids) of motorized vehicles on a regular basis, and installing signs. traffic along the way. And the repressive effort is by imposing a crime against the hit-and-run perpetrator.
