Abstract
The crime of trafficking in persons (human trafficking) is a very complex crime, and is a crime that is difficult to eradicate. This crime is more closely related to the existence of the sex industry and illegal workers whose victims are mostly women and children. In general, the crime of trafficking in persons is often used as material for prostitution, pornography, begging, fringe workers, domestic workers and even arranged marriages. Not only that, it even includes the sale of internal organs and social exploitation. The crime of trafficking in persons does not only occur within the country, even this crime has become a transnational crime because its scope has reached overseas. So that there needs to be intervention from law enforcement officials in providing legal protection to victims. The problems in this research are as follows: how are the legal protection efforts that can be provided by the police to the victims and what are the factors that become obstacles in providing legal protection efforts to victims of trafficking in persons. These are as follows, how are the legal protection efforts that can be provided by the police to the victims and what are the factors that become obstacles in providing legal protection efforts to the victims of trafficking in persons. The research method used by the author is a type of empirical sociological legal research, where the author goes directly to the field to find data that will be used as material for writing scientific papers, the data is taken through direct interviews. Then the author also uses the nature of the research, namely in the form of analytical descriptive, which means the research in question provides a clear and systematic detailed description of the Police's Efforts in Providing Legal Protection to Victims of Trafficking in Persons in the Police Juriduction of Bengkalis. The results of the research and discussion that the authors get are that the Police have made legal protection efforts to victims of the crime of trafficking in persons in accordance with the roles and functions of the Police as stated in Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Indonesian National Police that the police have a role in providing security, and order in society, as well as enforcement, protection of the law and providing shelter to the community. As well as the factors that become obstacles in providing legal protection itself because victims rarely report and are still embarrassed to communicate to the police. So that it becomes difficult for the police to provide legal protection to victims of the crime of trafficking in persons.
