Abstract

This study is motivated by the phenomena of public perception in Pekanbaru City who still think that Islamic banking is the same as conventional banking. They assume that the Islamic banking only uses margin and the conventional banking uses interest. Islamic banking is sharia banking which is based on the Qur'an and hadiths. For this reason, the researcher is interested in doing a study on how the public perception of the development of Islamic banking products in Pekanbaru City. The type of this study is descriptive research. The data sources of this study consist of primary data and secondary data. The primary data are obtained from the questionnaires distributed to the people of Pekanbaru City, while the secondary data are obtained from books, the internet, and other media. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical method. The data are presented with tables, graphs, pie charts and percentages then described. The population of this study consists of 1.146.070 respondents with a sample of 384 respondents. From the 384 respondents, 63.94% state strongly agree, 34.57% state agree, 1.01% state neutral, 0.47% state disagreed and 0.01% state strongly disagreed. After the data are analyzed by using descriptive analysis, the results of this study show that the public perception of Islamic Banking Products in Pekanbaru city is 63.94%, which lies in the range of 60% - 80% , that is "Good".
