Abstract

Generally, petroleum production produces emulsions, where emulsions are two liquids which in their natural conditions do not mix with each other, but under certain conditions they merge into one phase. Oil emulsions can be separated by several methods, namely mechanical, thermal, electrical and chemical processes. In this final project, we will make a demulsifier from organic material, namely starfruit. This test is carried out in the laboratory using the bottle test method. This method is used to help determine the effect of starfruit as a demulsifier for local ingredients. The purpose of this research is to determine the value of emulsion separation from local material demulsifier to commercial demulsifier with variations in temperature and concentration, as well as to determine the water quality of the emulsion separation by testing total dissolved solids (TDS) and pH. From the results of the study obtained good separation values in the local demulsifier sample because it was able to break the emulsion at all test temperatures, the highest separation occurred at temperatures of 700C, 800C with optimal concentrations of 3 ml and 5 ml and the separation results were 27 ml and 30 ml, while commercial demulsifiers also able to break the emulsion at all temperatures and concentrations, the highest separation at a temperature of 800C at a concentration of 5 ml with a yield of 28 ml. and good water quality as a result of demulsification occurred in the local demulsifier sample test with a TDS of 497 ppm and a pH of 6.3.
