Abstract

Chaotic events in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua flooded the news in various mass media towards the end of 2019, such as the social conflict that occured in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency. This study aims to find out how the process of framing news about the riots that occurred in Wamena in the online media Tempo.co. The research was conducted using a qualitative analysis method using a framing analysis model by Robert N. Entman. The subject of this research is the online media Tempo.co, while the object of research is 8 news of the Wamena riots published from 23 to 30 September 2019. The results of the research define the problem show that Tempo.co online media constructed the riots in Wamena into a social conflict that harmed many parties. by making hoaxes, racial utterances and intruders as diagnose causes. Tempo.co online media explores make moral judgments that all parties can think rationally so as not to be easily provoked by false news, so the framing contains a strong treatment recommendation to urge the government and related parties to immediately restore a conducive atmosphere. In general, Tempo.co seeks to convey the weakness of the government in managing conflict issues in Papua. As a result, issues of sara and racism become sensitive issues that easily provoke people's emotions.
