Abstract

This research relates to the application of the journalistic code of ethics on the news portal riau.antaranews.com and the understanding of journalists from the ANTARA Riau National News Agency (LKBN) on journalistic ethics. This research method uses an approach approach with data collection techniques, interviews, observations, and study documentation with research subjects 4 journalists and the editor-in-chief of LKBN ANTARA Riau, the authors conducted interviews with journalists to obtain data. The application of a journalistic code of ethics by analyzing criminal news from January to June 2021 which includes 38 news stories. The results of the study found 8 criminal news stories that did not apply the journalistic code of ethics article 3 because there were still some photos of news that were less than perfect in blur or disguised by journalists, however journalists tried to cover the faces of criminals. Violations of the journalistic code of ethics did not only occur in news photos, but also violations of the journalistic code of ethics in news texts, namely news that did not take a clear source of news, and the ANTARA Riau LKBN made no attempt to clarify until this research was completed in February 2022. Violation of the journalistic code of ethics article 10 and subsequent violations of unbalanced news and violations of the journalistic code of ethics article 3. The results of subsequent research on journalists' understanding of the journalistic code of ethics found that there were journalists who still did not understand the journalistic code of ethics.
