Abstract

This study aims to improve critical thinking and activeness of economic students in class X IPA 3 at SMAN 10 Pekanbaru in the 2019/2020 academic year by applying the Discussion Learning Model. This research is a classroom action research (PTK) with the research subjects of class X IPA 3 students at SMAN 10 Pekanbaru. The 2019/2020 teaching consists of 36 students consisting of 18 male students and 18 female students. This research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle had four stages, namely: planning, implementing the action, observing, and reflecting. In the first cycle consisted of 3 meetings by doing quizzes, papers, and group discussions. The critical thinking data collection technique is a test in the form of a quiz for activeness with group discussions. Meanwhile, the data analysis test used descriptive analysis. Based on the results of the study, the discussion learning model could improve critical thinking and activeness of class X IPA 3 students of SMAN 10 Pekanbaru for the 2019/2020 academic year. The increase in students' critical thinking in the first cycle with an average of 74.19% increased in the second cycle with an average of 81.93%. Activeness in cycle I with an average of 75% increased in cycle II with an average of 86.71%. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the application of the discussion model is to improve critical thinking and activeness of class X IPA 3 students of SMAN 10 Pekanbaru for the 2019/2020 academic year.
