Abstract
The design of portable electric arc furnace using a castable refactory cement was carried for melting aluminium metal in a short time for small capacity. This electric arc furnace also uses a transformer, graphite electrode, and type K thermocouple as supporting components to melt and measure the temperature of the molten metal.the results of energy calculation shows the required energy to melt 80 grams of aluminium metal was 945,7 watts in 200 seconds. The combustion chamber of furnace was designed in the form of cylinder with dimensions of 36 mm in diameter and 30 mm of depth. After fabrication, the test carried out usingg the 80 gram aluminium for 3 times, and the average mellting time was 210 seconds.
