Abstract

Since childhood, a woman is always taught to be a gentle woman and must be protected, while a man must be strong and be able to protect women. This will later lead to dependency during adulthood, because they are accustomed to relying on outside forces to help them so that women are afraid to become independent. The fear of independence is called a cinderella complex, which is a fear of independence in women that is indicated by a strong desire to be cared for and protected by others, and having the belief that something from outside will help her. Personal maturity is a condition in which a person is able to be responsible for himself with the talents they have, as well as bring out existing potentials and have goals in life. This study aims to examine the relationship between personal maturity andbehavior cinderella complex among female students of the Islamic University of Riau. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The data were collected using a research scale, namely a personal maturity scale of 32 items and ascale of cinderella complex 30 items which were distributed to 368 female students. Based on the results of thecorrelation, it is Spearman Rho known that there is a significant negative relationship between personal maturity andbehavior cinderella complex at the Islamic University of Riau with a correlation coefficient value (r) = -0.420 with a significant value of 0.000 (ρ <0.05) and a determinant coefficient value of 0.253 which means personal maturity provides an effective contribution of 25.3% to the behavior of the cinderella complex.
