Abstract

The purpose of this research to know the profile of consciousness and metacognitive strategy based on gender of the first year students of SMPN sub-district Merbau Island of regency of Meranti island in Academic Year 2017/2018. The research The research is designed in form of analyze descriptive. The collected of the data was Juli 2018. The sample was class VII and the total is 138 students in three. The instrument to collect the data from two poll they are the data of consciousness of metacognitive and the data metacognitive strategy. The data of students metacognitive that can by isntrument metacognitive awareness inventori (MAI) start from 52 evidance that geven to students metacognitive for the taken with students exprerience. The data of metacognitive strategy start from 8 questions that can draw up metacognitive strategy of the students. Based on the research to find out the data that is the students of SMPN sub-district Merbau Island the part of them to know about consciousness and metacognitive straregy. Any else into category in evoling (IE), still have effect (SHE), and not in evoling (NIE). 29,31% the man and 19,81% the woman into start evoling (SE). The big OK part 68,46% the man and 67,99% the woman consciousness of metacognitive on students SMPN sub-district Merbau Island that can to practice by the theacher 43,76% the man and 67,70% the woman. Metacogitive strategies the most often used by students is preparing a summary 53,66% male students and female students is 60,6%.
