Abstract

Self-confidence is defined as a person's belief in his abilities. There are many factors that may affect individual confidence, one of which is how individuals can perceive their physical appearance. This study aims to determinethe correlation between body image and self-confidence on high school students in Pekanbaru. The study method uses a quantitative approach with accidental sampling technique involving 250 high school students in Pekanbaru. Measuring instruments in this study imply a scale of confidence with 52 items and body image scale with 33 items. The data analysis method uses Spearman rho correlation analysis. The result of statistical analysis shows a correlation of 0.340 with a significance value 0,000 (p <0.05). This indicates that there is a significant correlation with a positive direction between body image and self-confidence on high school students in Pekanbaru. That is, the higher the body image, the higher the self-confidenceon high school students. Vice versa, the lower the body image (body image), the lower the confidence in high school students. The effective contribution number of body image variables to self-confidence is 14.7% and the remaining 85.3% influenced by other factors not examined in this study.
