Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to explain the role of the General Election Commission in Pekanbaru City in Increasing Public Political Participation (Study on the 2018 Election of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Riau), and what are the obstacles to the efforts of the General Election Commission of Pekanbaru City to increase the political participation of the community, the type of research. used is qualitative, data collection techniques used in this study consisted of primary data collected from interviews and secondary data collected from observation and documentation techniques, the data obtained were analyzed then described and made conclusions based on the research conducted. From the results of the research, it can be seen that the efforts of the Pekanbaru City KPU in increasing the political participation of the community by using various methods of socialization to all levels of society and in collaboration with community leaders, religious leaders, traditional leaders, youth organizations and various social media and mass media. In increasing the political participation of the people, the KPU of Pekanbaru City has experienced one of the obstacles, namely the lack of funds and adequate human resources and limited time in conveying the socialization of the election for governor and deputy governor of Riau in 2018
