Abstract

This research was conducted in Pekanbaru City. The purpose of this study is to find out how the role of the industrial sector on employment in Pekanbaru City is, then to find out how big the role of the small industrial sector and the medium industrial sector is in the absorption of labor in Pekanbaru City. The type of data used in this study is secondary data with a five-year time series starting in 2016-2020. The data analysis method used in this research is descriptive analysis, namely the analysis of labor elasticity by calculating the percentage growth in the number of workers in the industrial sector divided by the percentage growth in the number of industries to find out how the role of the industrial sector in labor absorption in Pekanbaru City, then by finding the average percentage of elasticity of the small industry sector and the elasticity of the medium industry sector to find out how big the role of the small industrial sector and the medium industrial sector to the absorption of labor in the city of Pekanbaru. The results of this study indicate that the role of the industrial sector in labor absorption in Pekanbaru City is relatively small, where the elasticity number only ranges from -0.11% to 0.91%, then the magnitude of the role of the small industrial sector in employment in Pekanbaru City is 0.76% and the role of the medium industrial sector in the absorption of labor in Pekanbaru City is 0.52%. It can be concluded that the role of the small industrial sector is greater in the absorption of labor in Pekanbaru City during 2016-2020.
