Abstract

Research on the application of the talking stick type cooperative learning model aims to improve the learning process and improve the mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII-9 students of SMPN 26 Pekanbaru. The subjects of the research were 40 students of class VIII-9 SMPN 26 Pekanbaru. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of two cycles. The data collection instruments consisted of observation sheets, questionnaire sheets and learning result test sheets. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive data analysis with analysis of observation sheets, questionnaire sheets and analysis of learning outcomes. The results of observations of teacher activities and observations of student activities at each meeting showed that there was an increase in the mathematics learning process of students in class VIII-9 of SMPN 26 Pekanbaru starting from the first meeting in cycle I to the last meeting in cycle II. This can be seen from the number of students who completed the basic score, namely 14 students from 40 students or 35%, increasing in daily tests I to 22 students from 40 students or 55%. Student learning outcomes after carrying out the learning process in cycle II increased in daily tests II to 33 students or 83%. The increase can also be seen from the percentage of students' response questionnaires to the mathematics learning process before action, namely 74.7%. After being given the action, it increased to 77.6% at the end of cycle I and at the end of cycle II increased to 81.5%. The results showed that the application of the talking stick type of cooperative learning model can improve the mathematics learning process of class VIII-9 students of SMPN 26 Pekanbaru in the even semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.
