Abstract

This study aims to see the Critical Thinking Skills and Critical Attitudes of students who participate in the Youth Scientific Group (YSG) specifically students for SMP. This research is a descriptive study. The instruments used were essays and questionnaires based on indicators of critical thinking and the results of observations and interviews. This study looked at critical thinking skills and critical attitudes by solving problems in Biology science learning questions given by researchers and a statement questionnaire showing a scientific attitude. This research was conducted on March 6 to March 13 2020. The research sample was all members of the Youth Scientific Group (YSG) at SMPN 12 Dumai, totaling 50 students. The results showed that 82% critical thinking skills in students while 85.1% critical attitude skills in students, which shows that critical attitude is higher than critical thinking in students who participate in the Youth Scientific Group (YSG). From the results of this study it can be concluded that students who take part in the Youth Scientific Group (YSG) at SMPN 12 Dumai have the ability to think critically and have a critical attitude in the High and Very Critical categories.
