Abstract

Cultural perception is an internal process that allows us to select, organize and interpret stimuli from our environment, and these processes influence our behavior. 3M socialization was carried out by always wearing a mask, washing hands and keeping a distance. The high rate of spread of COVID-19 in Tualang District was also caused by the community's disobedience to the health care program, especially the 3M program. This study was to find out how people's cultural perceptions of public communication related to 3M socialization in handling covid-19 in Tualang District. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. There were 5 informants in this study. The results of the study show that (1) Trust, where information on 3M culture is obtained from the Tualang District government, task force officers, whatapp groups, company announcements; (2) A world view, where the benefits of 3M culture can protect themselves, minimize transmission and reduce the number of spreads, the impact of 3M culture where people must always use masks, wash their hands and keep their distance; (3) Social organizations, where social organizations consist of the Covid-19 task force, community organizations, youth organizations, IKPP organizations, government agencies and associations; (4) Human nature, which applies the 3M culture and the implementation of the 3M culture by always wearing a mask when leaving the house, always washing hands after activities and always maintaining a safe distance of 1 meter; (5) Activity orientation, where there is a Covid-19 task force that goes directly to the field as well as visits to people's homes, orientation from the local village office, print and electronic media, and seminars held by the government; (6) Perceptions about self and others, self-perceptions can better understand their own situation, take care of themselves with the application of 3M, while the perception of others is that there are people who do not practice 3M culture, lack of public awareness, there are still people who do not believe in covid-19 but want to apply 3M culture.
