Abstract

This research aims to see how, the representation of the image of the Indonesian government, in documentary films of sex killers, and also this research aims to be a reference for those who want to research, about film semiotics. This study uses Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic analysis. This research comes from the film, which was worked on with the construction of a coal factory, with environmental damage, due to coal companies and community conflicts with the government, and a company directed by Dandhy Dwi Laksono, produced at Watchdoc Image, and distributed by Watchdoc Image channel. This film depicts the effects of building a coal factory in East Kalimantan. Not only that, this film also has several scenes that depict the image of the government or government actions that should not be taken against the people affected by the construction of a coal factory, through Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics, using a triangular model of the meaning of sign, object, and interpretant. In this study, using a qualitative method with a semiotic research approach. This study uses triangulation techniques, namely data validity checking techniques that utilize other data outside the data for checking or comparison purposes. The data technique uses documentation, observation, and content analysis. The results of this study indicate that this film presents a negative image of the Indonesian people in general, especially local communities in East Kalimantan due to the development of a coal company. Scenes in this film reveal several effects that depict the image, namely disappointment, lack of care, illegal actions.
