Abstract

Differences in patrilineal and matrilineal cultures in positioning women in everyday life will cause women's independence. Often times when women enter adolescence to early adulthood, they experience independence and will tend to depend on others. Which dowling calls this woman's independence with the term Cinderella complex. (Dowling, 1995) Cinderella complex is an attitude or fear experienced by women that appears in the form of a deep desire to be cared for and protected by others. This study is the difference in the formation of the cinderella complex behavior of women who adhere to the patrilineal and matrilineal lineages of female students at the Islamic University of Riau. The sampling technique used in this research was purposive sampling. The measuring instrument used is the Cinderella Complex scale which was adapted from (Hapsari, 2014) with a total of 31 items distributed to 200 female students, including 100 female students who are Javanese which represent the patrilineal lineage and 100 female students with Malay ethnicity representing the matrilineal lineage. The data obtained were then analyzed using the Independent Sample T-test method. Based on the results of the analysis with a t value of 0.056 and a significance value (p) of 0.056 (p> 0.05). With a mean value of 97.27 for Javanese, while Malays have a mean value of 51.50, it can be concluded that there are differences in the formation of Cinderella complex behavior between women who adhere to the matrilineal lineage (Malay ethnicity) and women who adhere to the Patrilineal lineage (Javanese)
