Abstract

Student who are completing the thesis experience various obstacles such as the difficulty of finding related references with the research title, difficulty in compiling the right sentence, and the difficulty of adjusting the guidance time with the lecturer. Therefore, students who are writing their thesis need academic resilience in themselves. Academic resilience is the ability of individuals to overcome the difficulties and obstacles they experience and be able to rise again from the difficulties and adversity that they face during the process of preparing a thesis. Patience is one of the factors that is suspected to influence student resilience because a patient person can remain calm and strong when experiencing difficulties in preparing his thesis. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between patience with academic resilience of students who are writing their thesis. Subjects in this study were 376 people selected by cluster sampling technique. The data collection method uses the academic resilience scale (ARS-30) compiled by Cassidy (2016) totaling 30 items and patience scale compiled by Jusar (2018) with 38 items. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rho correlation method where the results showed a correlation coefficient r of 0.814 with p of 0.000 (p <0.05). It can be concluded that there is a positive and significant relationship between patience and academic resilience of students who are preparing their thesis. This means that the higher the patience, the higher the academic resilience of the student, and vice versa. The lower the patience, the lower the academic resilience of students who are writing their thesis.
