Abstract
The formation of deposits called scale in the flowline, production line to the gathering station, which often occurs from upstream oil and gas industry activities or activities, greatly disrupts the oil and gas production process. Scale forming is the mixing of two incompatible minerals. In general, to reduce scale, it is overcome using organic-based inhibitors such as Ethylene diamine tetracetic acid (EDTA), but EDTA is non-biodegradable and has a high level of toxicity that can have adverse effects when interacting directly with the human body. Researchers develop organic scale inhibitors that are more environmentally friendly, as well as economical. Aloe vera is used because it has a content that can slow down the growth of scale, aloe vera is also easy to find and easy to cultivate. In the study, the main ingredient of aloe vera gel was extracted by the maceration method and used as an organic-based inhibitor which has organic acid compounds such as carboxylic acid, where the compound is a type of weak acid that can help reduce scale. The results of testing carboxylic acid compounds in aloe vera gel extract using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), obtained carboxylic acid compounds contained in the extract samples. This study discusses the effect of organic inhibitors on the reduction of CaCO3 scale using various immersion volumes of 5, 10, 15, and 20 ml with variations in immersion time of 5 and 10 minutes and continues to calculate the scale reduction using the weight loss method. Based on the research that has been done, it is known that organic aloe vera gel inhibitors have an effect on scale reduction, where the highest reduction efficiency is obtained by organic inhibitors with an immersion volume of 20 ml and an immersion time of 10 minutes, namely 0.102 grams with a reduced percentage reaching 5.1%.
