Abstract

Oil-in-water emulsions will have a negative impact on the oil and gas industry if the emulsion is not handled, such as the occurrence of scale in the flowline, production line to gathering stations and corrosion in the pipeline and also has a bad impact on the environment. So this study aims to examine the potential of Graphene Oxide as a demulsifier. GO was synthesized by the Liquid Phase Exfloliation (LPE) method. This study is based on the concentration of GO dosage to see the volume of oil separated from water and oil and grease content, water turbidity and salinity. The GO test of the emulsion was carried out by the bottle test method. After the bottle test, it was found that the GO dose had the potential to break the stability of the oil-in-water emulsion where the color of the emulsion liquid had changed from dark brown to light brown. Indicates that there has been a reaction between Graphene Oxide (GO) and the emulsion. By increasing the dosage of GO 10 ppm the separate volume of oil was obtained as much as 1.2 ml, dosage of GO 30 ppm as much as 1.6 ml, dosage of GO 50 ppm as much as 2 ml, dosage of GO 70 ppm as much as 2.1 ml, dosage of GO 90 ppm as much as 2.1 ml, GO dosage of 110 ppm is 2.1 ml. The optimum dose obtained was 70 ppm GO dosage with a separate volume of oil obtained as much as 2.1 for 60 minutes. The GO dosage of 10 – 110 ppm showed a decrease in oil and grease content, turbidity, and salinity. The oil and grease levels obtained at a dosage of GO 10 ppm were 23 mg/L, a dosage of GO 30 ppm was 15 mg/L, a dosage of GO 50 ppm was 13 mg/L, a dosage of GO 70 ppm was 12 mg/L, a dosage of GO 90 ppm is 11 mg/L, and the GO dosage is 110 ppm at 10 mg/L. Then the turbidity of water at a dosage of 10 ppm GO is 10.11 NTU, a dosage of GO 30 ppm is 5.02 NTU, a dosage of GO 50 ppm is 4.56 NTU, a dosage of GO 70 ppm is 3.12 NTU, a dosage of GO 90 ppm is 2 ,31 NTU, and GO dosage of 110 ppm was 2.29 NTU, and salinity at dosage of GO 10 ppm was 3,438 PSU, dosage of GO 30 ppm was 2,972 PSU, dosage of GO 50 ppm was 2,762 PSU, dosage of GO 70 ppm was 2,652 PSU, the GO dosage of 90 ppm was 2,551 PSU, and the GO dosage of 110 ppm was 2,549 PSU. The best dosage obtained for oil and grease content, turbidity, and salinity was the GO dosage of 110 ppm.
