Abstract

A.R. Rizal's novel Nilam raises the issue of women in Minangkabau having a slightly different color. Apart from prioritizing socio-cultural criticism, this novel is full of romance. The novel Nilam is a post-war novel because it tells a story about a woman in the millennial era. In the novel Patchouli, you can see the character's traits, attitudes and behavior. The problem in this research is what is the profile of women in A.R.Rizal's novel Patchouli? The research objective was to obtain described information data and systematic and detailed analysis so as to obtain the actual data. The data obtained were seen from the characteristics, attitudes and behavior. The scope is included in the study of literary criticism. The theory used is the theory of Aminuddin (2009), Hamidy (2001), Trisman (2003). The data source for all pages of the novel Patchouli by A.R.Rizal published by CV. Iko Media Publisher. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. The research method that I use in this research is content analysis method with the type of library research. The technique that I use in this research is hermeneutic technique. The technique used in analyzing research data is data analysis technique. The results of the research on the profile of women in the novel Patchouli by A.R. Rizal, there are 4 female characters who have different attitudes, traits and behavior. Of the 4 figures, 33 data were obtained which included the characteristics, attitudes and behavior. There are 18 quotes related to the character's character, 9 quotes related to the character's attitude, and 6 quotes related to the character's behavior. The most dominant data from this study is the characteristic aspect. Characteristic aspects in this novel can be identified through the characters' speech, behavior and thoughts.
