Abstract

One of the efforts to increase the rate of oil production is the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) method. Polymer injection is a chemical injection method that can Improve sweep efficiency and control the mobility ratio etween water and oil. Polymers can e classified into two, namely synthetic polymers and biopolymers or natural polymers, the most commonly used material from synthetic polymers is HPAM and in bopolymers Xanthan Gum, but both have weaknesses. The constituents of the polymer itself are polysaccharides which are widely found in seaweed and freen grass jelly leaves. Based on the type of polysaccharide , seaweed is devided into three namely agar, alginate, and carrageenan. Carrageenan content in seaweed and pectin content in green grass jelly leaves are widely used as thickeners, and as stabilizers. This is what makes the researchers interested in conducting research on the analysis of functional groups of carrageenan extraction from red seaweed (Eucheuma Cottoni) and pectin extraction from grass jelly leaves as potential alternative polymer materials for polymer injection. In the FTIR test on green grass jelly leaves, the results were in accordance with the pectin structure. There are OH vibrations, CH3 bonds in the methoxyl branch (COOCH_3), -CH bonds, carbonyl (-C=O) and ether (-O-) and in the FTIR spectrum the carrageenan produced in red seaweed shows the presence of S=O bonds in the group. sulfate esters, CO bonds with 3,6 anhydrogalactose groups and the presence of CO-SO_3 bonds on 4sulfate galactose groups indicate kappa carrageenan. so that the two materials can be used as polymers to be used as alternative materials.
