Abstract

Every human being cannot be separated from greeting, because in this social life we need the help of others. When we want to greet people, surely we have various kinds of nicknames. The naming of people is the name someone uses to greet or call people according to their own characteristics. The names of people referred to in this study are a number of nicknames that are used by the community in the Bourtrem Jaya Hamlet, Bangko Lestari Village, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency, both in terms of their background factors and based on their lingual pattern. The formulation of the problem in this research is (1) What are the factors underlying the naming of people in Bangko Lestari Village, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency? (2) What is the pattern of naming people based on the lingual form used by the community of Bangko Lestari Village, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency?. The purpose of this study is (1) To describe the factors underlying the naming of people in Bangko Lestari Village, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency. (2) To describe the pattern of naming people based on the lingual form used by the community of Bangko Lestari Village, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency. The theory used is using the theory of Chaer (2009: 43), Chaer (2012: 222), and Sugiyono (2014: 63). Sampling in this study uses purposive sampling technique according to the opinion of Sugiyono (2014: 85) "sampling technique with certain considerations". The method used in this research is ethnographic method with a qualitative approach. The techniques used are observation, interview, and documentation. The conclusions in this study show that (1) Factors underlying the naming of people are the mention of parts including kliwon, bagol, and tongos, the mention of special characteristics including noise, and congkel, the mention of similarity including snails and mbah marijans, and the mention of shortening including kuntreng, and depol. (2) The pattern of naming people's nicknames is based on the lingual form, that is, from the word form including shucks, and cork, phrase shapes including tweaking the budek, and man blac. The overall naming of people in Bourtrem Jaya Hamlet, Bangko Lestari Village, Bangko Pusako Subdistrict, amounts to 43 nicknames.
