Abstract

Reduplication is often found in regional languages, especially the Toba Batak language. Toba Batak language is the language used as a means of communication between communities in Tanah Merah Village, Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. The Toba Batak language is unique in terms of form and meaning, in terms of form related to the number of syllables produced can be different when translated into Indonesian and in this Toba Batak language there are also forms such as reduplication, but when translated into Indonesian be the root word and not reduplication. Then in terms of meaning, there is a change in meaning when a word undergoes a reduplication process and there are also some words that are repeated, but it does not change the meaning of its basic form. Through the uniqueness that has been described, the author is interested in conducting research with the title "Reduplication of Toba Batak Language in Tanah Merah Village, Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency", in this research there are 2 problem formulations, namely (1) how the reduplication forms of Toba Batak language in Tanah Merah Village, Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency? (2) what is the meaning of the reduplication of the Toba Batak language in Tanah Merah Village, Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency? The research objective, namely to describe, analyze, interpret, and conclude the forms and meanings of reduplication in the Toba Batak language in Tanah Merah Village, Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. This study uses the theory of M. Ramlan (2009). Sources of data and data in this study are sources who match the criteria and all the Toba Batak languages spoken in Tanah Merah Village, Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. The method used is descriptive method. The techniques used are interview techniques, recording techniques, and fishing techniques. Through the research that has been done, the authors obtained 3 forms of reduplication, namely whole reduplication, partial reduplication, combined reduplication with affixes. Then the 10 meanings of reduplication include, (1) the meaning of 'many', (2) the meaning of 'many', (3) the meaning of 'unconditional', (4) the meaning of 'similar to that in the basic form', (5) the meaning of 'action in the basic form it is done repeatedly, (6) the meaning of 'actions in the basic form is done with ease, ease and enjoyment', (7) the meaning of 'mutual', (8) the meaning 'related to work in the basic form', (9) the meaning of 'the highest attainable level', (10) repetition which does not change the meaning of its basic form but expresses the intensity of feeling'.
