Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the talking stick type cooperative learning model on self-confidence and mathematics learning outcomes of Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 35 Pekanbaru. This research was started from February 4 until 22 in 2020. The research is Quasi Experiment (Quasi Experiment). The design is Nonequivaent control group design. The population of this research is all grade VII students of SMP Negeri 35 Pekanbaru. Samples were selected using purposive sampling. Class VII2 as an experimental class with 40 students and class VII1 as a control class with 39 students. Data collection instruments in the form of questionnaires and tests. The test is used to see student mathematics learning outcomes and the questionnaire sheet is used to see the level of student confidence. Test and questionnaire data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and inferential analysis. The statistik analysis for the test results in this study is the t-test with t_ (count) = 2.094 and t_table = 2.022 so that 2.094 > 2.022, H1 is accepted. So it can be concluded that the results of learning mathematics with the cooperative learning model talking stick type is better than learning outcomes with conventional learning models. Furthermore, for statistik analysis of confidence questionnaire data the value of t-test with t_ (count) = 3,886 and t_table = 2,022, so that 3,886 > 2,022. So it can be concluded that students' confidence with the talking stick type cooperative learning model is better than confidence with conventional learning models. Based on the above analysis shows that there is a significant effect of the talking stick type cooperative learning model on self-confidence and mathematics learning outcomes of Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 35 Pekanbaru.
