Abstract

Inside a Universitas Islam Riau there is a library building in which there is an attendance system or a system that records visitors when they come to the UIR library. The attendance system or library visitor data collection system already uses a barcode system, but this barcode system is rarely used by students when entering the library. The system that is often used is a manual input system using a keyboard, where students enter their own NPM into the system to fill in visit or attendance data. RFID is a process of identifying objects or objects using radio frequencies. This technology can improve the quality and service of higher education, such as the lecture process, research (research), literature, and even as student identities. RFID is a new technology that is used to identify and retrieve data using magnetic cards. The type of research used in this research is qualitative research. While the data collection method used is observation and literature study, the design method uses the prototype method. This system is tested using each block test, namely testing every hardware used and testing the software in terms of functional specifications. The results of this study are student attendance systems using smart cards to replace the model for recording visitor attendance using barcodes and typing manually using a keyboard with a smart card. So that it can reduce the occurrence of queues and reduce paper use.
