Abstract

Geochemical investigation aims to determine the distribution and information of mineral deposits in the form of general surface geological data and subsurface data (petrographic testing) as information on the potential for mineral deposits in the study area to be used as an energy resource. The research area is located in the Southeastern part of Kamang Magek Village, Tilatang Kamang District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province. This research was conducted to determine the geological aspects, mineral characteristics, distribution, and mineral potential of the area. The research method used petrographic analysis and XRF analysis on the rocks contained in the outcrop. The results of the study in the form of geological and geomorphological data (secondary data) show that the study area has steep karst hilly geomorphological units, parallel flow patterns with lithology which are limestone units. The results of petrographic analysis showed that the thin limestone sections at 3 stations had calcite (100%) and 2 stations had calcite (99%) and opaque (1%) minerals. The results of XRF analysis show that calcite (CaCO3) has a distribution of 72.02%, aluminum oxide (Al2O3) has a distribution of 21.24%, potassium oxide (K2O) has a distribution of 3.56%, iron oxide (Fe2O3) has a distribution of 1.84%, and Phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) has a distribution of 1.5%. The use of minerals in the research area is in the form of calcite and aluminum minerals which can be used as construction, production, refractory, fertilizer and the basis for making metal on aluminum.
