Abstract
Prejudice is an antipathy attitude based on wrong and inflexible generalization. One of the factors causing prejudice is ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is a belief in the strengths of ethnic cultural groups and looks down on other ethnic groups. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between ethnocentrism and ethnic Malay prejudice in the Minangkabau ethnic group. The approach used is quantitative by involving 348 ethnic Malay respondents who live in Pekanbaru City. The sampling technique used is puposive sampling. This study uses 2 scales in the form of a Likert scale to measure ethnocentrism and prejudice. Analysis of the data used is the product moment correlation. The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between ethnocentrism and Malay ethnic prejudice in the Minangkabau ethnicity with a correlation coefficient (r)= 0.689 P= 0.000 <0.05. The contribution of ethnocentrism to Malay ethnic prejudice to the Minangkabau ethnic group was 47.5% while 52.5% was influenced by other factors.
