Abstract

This study is motivated by the low level of learning participation among students at SMPN 6 Siak Hulu. It can be seen from the following signs: 1) The teacher has explained the lessons but some students look silent and reluctant to answer the teacher’s questions orally, 2) The teacher has explained the lessons but some students are still not confident so they do not want to ask questions and are less active, 3) The teacher has given learning instructions but some students are still less responsible for doing the tasks, 4) The teacher has explained the lessons but some students are not brave or shy to come forward to the class in learning process. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of using cooperative learning method on students’ participation in learning Islamic Studies at SMPN 6 Siak Hulu. This study is conducted at SMPN 6 Siak Hulu with the subject is a teacher of Islamic Studies. The data processing techniques are editing, coding, tabulating, and scoring. The type of this study is quantitative research with a correlation approach. The population of this study consists of 168 students which involves 120 samples. The sampling technique used is the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 5%. The data collection techniques used are questionnaires and documentation. The data analysis techniques used are normality testing and hypothesis testing with a linear regression approach performed by SPSS 22. The results of this study show that the alternative hypothes is accepted, it means that there is a significant influence of using cooperative learning method on students’ participation in learning Islamic Studies at SMPN 6 Siak Hulu. The results of this study indicate that there is an influence of using cooperative learning method on students’ participation in learning Islamic Studies at SMPN 6 Siak Hulu. The magnitude of the influence is 0.271 or 27.1% which is included in the low category because it lies in the range of 0.20 – 0.399 in the correlation coefficient interpretation table.
