Abstract

The agricultural sector is one of the sectors that is the center of attention in national development, particularly those related to the processing and utilization of strategic products, especially those concerning food commodities. At present gambier business is one alternative to the development of the rural economy. This study aims to analyze: (1) Characteristics and profile of gambier business (2) Gambier processing process (3) Gambier business which includes: production factors, costs, production (4) Revenue, efficiency and break even point (BEP) in Mungka District Lima Puluh Regency City of West Sumatra Province. Sampling was carried out randomly (simple random sampling) consisting of 75 entrepreneurs. The data used are primary and secondary data. The results of the study showed that the characteristics of the entrepreneur were 43.50 years old, the average length of education was 8.4 years, the average entrepreneur's experience was 19.88 years, the average number of dependents was 3.96 people and the business profile gambier which is managed by entrepreneurs is still a small industry, because the labor force used is still relatively small, around 3 people. Gambier processing activities are: leaf picking, leaf collection, leaf boiling, leaf wrapping, sap collection, leaf separation, deposition, sediment drainage, molding, and drying. The average use of raw materials for gambier business is 40 kg / production process. The use of supporting materials for gambier business in kerosene is 1 liter / production process and the use of firewood is 2 bunch / production process. The total cost incurred by gambier entrepreneurs in the process of making gambier is 357,232 / production process and production is 105 kg, fixed costs Rp. 2,970,993 / production process, and raw material costs Rp. 289,112 / production process, gross income of Rp. 2,152,387, net income of Rp. 1,695,084 with RCR obtained 4.72. Gambling business Break Even Point (BEP) was achieved at a production volume of 1.88 kg and a price of Rp 38,613.31 / Kg with a value of Rp. 4,355.26 / production process.
