Abstract

Researchers are interested in researching this because this ritual is the only one in Indonesia. This research aims to find out the ritual communication in the Deo Kayangan ritual in Rumbai Pesisir District, Tebing Tinggi Okura Village, Pekanbaru. The focus of this research is ritual communication on Deo Kayangan as a treatment system for Malay shamans in Tebing Tinggi Okura Village. In the concept of ritual communication research has seven similarities with the concept of ritual communication characteristics: ritual communication is closely related to the activities of sharing, participating, gathering, friends from a community that has a common belief, communication that is built is also not directly to convey or imparting information but to represent or re-present beliefs with the community, a communication pattern that is built like a sacred way / sacred where everyone is together in fellowship and gathering (for example, praying together, singing and other ceremonial activities), as in rituals , communicants are sought to be involved in the sacred drama, and not just to be observers or viewers, so that communication takes part in the communication process, the selection of communication symbols should be rooted in the tradition of the community itself, between the media and the message rather difficult to separate. the media itself can be a message, the use of symbols intended to symbolize ideas and values relating to hospitality, celebrations or ceremonies of worship and fellowship. This study uses qualitative methods, this method aims to get an understanding of the social reality of the Deo Kayangan ritual. The selection of informants is determined by Purposive Sampling. The results of this study indicate that the Deo Kayangan Ritual is a treatment system located in the Rumbai Coastal District of Tebing Tinggi Okura Village, Pekanbaru.
