Abstract

Corn is an important commodity for the Indonesian economy. As one of the people's food ingredients, corn can be classified as the main food ingredient in Indonesia which has a very important position after rice, which is the main source of carbohydrates and protein. This study aims to analyze (1) growth in demand for corn in Indonesia (2) factors that affect demand for corn in Indonesia (3) elasticity of demand for corn in Indonesia. This research uses a literature study that is analyzing data from relevant agencies. The type of data used in this study is time series data. The data used in this study are secondary data. Data were analyzed using growth rate calculation, multiple linear regression model lag, Ordinary Least Square (OLS) estimation method and elasticity analysis. The results of the study illustrate that overall the average growth rate of corn demand has increased by 4.29%. Factors that influence demand for corn are corn prices, population, and GDP. While rice prices, potato prices, and soybean prices are not included in the regression estimates to overcome the occurrence of multicollinearity. The results of the analysis of the elasticity of demand for corn prices of 0.070, which means not responsive to corn demand. This indicates that changes in corn prices do not have a major impact on changes in corn demand. While the income elasticity of 0.050 is an inelastic elasticity which shows that corn is a staple item / essential for the people of Indonesia.
