Abstract
Teaching Indonesian in schools aims to develop personalities, broaden life insights, and increase knowledge, and improve language skills. This research is motivated by students who have difficulty in expressing their imagination to express ideas or ideas in making a narrative essay. This is due to the lack of instructional media used by teachers in the learning process, therefore learning about writing narrative essays must be further enhanced by the creativity of the teacher in choosing the media to be used in the learning process. The problem in this research are; (1) What is the ability of VII grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu Kampar Regency in the academic year 2019/2020 in writing essays before applying the poster media? (2) What is the ability of VII grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu in Kampar Regency in 2019/2020 in writing narrative essays after applying poster media ?, (3) Is there a difference in the ability of Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu Kampar Regency in the academic year 2019/2020 in writing narrative essays before and after poster media is applied?. The research objectives are to (1) determine the ability of VII grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu Kampar Regency in the academic year 2019/2020 in writing narrative essays before applying the poster media, (2) knowing the ability of VII grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu Kampar Regency in the academic year 2019/2020 in writing narrative essays after applying poster media, (3) knowing whether there are differences in the ability of Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu Kampar Regency in 2019/2020 in writing narrative essays before and after poster media is applied. The population of this research is grade VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu Kampar Regency totaling 374 students. Sampling was carried out using simple random sampling technique with Slovin formula with a sample of 78 students. The research method is an experimental method with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Data collection techniques are observation and test techniques. Data analysis technique used descriptive statistical analysis using ttest. The results of the discussion are based on the results of the calculation of the t-test analysis on the pretets and posttest data of the control group and the experimental group showing that the ability of Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu Kampar Regency in the academic year 2019/2020 in writing narrative essays before and after poster media was applied there were differences the significant one is sig. (2 tailed) 0,000 <0.05. Then the hypothesis H_a = accepted and H_0 = rejected.
