Abstract

At first, coffee was an activity for young people to fill their spare time in order to relieve fatigue from their daily routine. Just imagine where there is a cup of coffee the atmosphere immediately melts away. They need a relaxed and calm atmosphere to refresh their minds by hanging out at a cafe or coffee shop after hours of chores and doing a day of routines. Coffee, which is now a lifestyle, does not only lie in the place where this young generation hangs out or has coffeebut also lies in the menu or coffee variants whose prices tend to be more expensive than regular coffee shops. By using this type of descriptive research with qualitative analysis, this study uses the phenomenological approach of Alfred Schutz about meaning construction. The object of this research is the meaning of coffee for adolescents in Pekanbaru Keliling Coffee. Meaning is constructed by looking at how teenagers interpret the coffee culture .The data collection techniques of this research are interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the meaning of coffee for adolescents is as a medium of socialization, as a lifestyle, as a necessity, and as a fatigue release. The habit of drinking coffee for most people makes the need for caffeine for the body to be high, as well as for each source so that the meaning of coffee for each source is different. The shift in use value in coffee shops is very pronounced, at first consumers visited coffee shops to get a cup of coffee for consumption, but with the emergence of coffee shops that present a modern impression, it has shifted towards other interests.
