Abstract

Polymers that can be applied in the EOR method have characteristics such as being soluble in water, having a large viscosity, having thermal resistance, having mechanical stability, and also having good salinity. Hydrocolloids are polymer components derived from plants, animals, microbes or synthetic components which generally contain hydroxyl. One of the plants that has a fairly high hydrocolloid content is black grass jelly. Tapioca serves as an additive for black grass jelly, because it contains high amylose and amylopectin. In this study, a research will be conducted on the combination of black grass jelly and tapioca. The process of making black grass jelly leaves into Gel Forming Components (KPG) is carried out by the extraction method and mixed with tapioca circulating in the market. After that, density and compatibility tests were carried out with polymer concentrations of 1000, 2000 and 3000 ppm with a ratio of 1:1, at salinities of 5000, 30000, and 60000 ppm, at temperatures of 70 and 80˚C. After the test, 8 samples of black grass jelly and tapioca were compatible and 8 samples of xanthan gum were compatible, then a density test was carried out, where the addition of polymer concentration could increase the density, but with increasing temperature the density decreased. Furthermore, the viscosity test was carried out, from this test, the highest viscosity values of black grass jelly and tapioca were 2.086cp while xhantan gum was 3.525cp. Viscosity will increase with increasing polymer concentration, but as the salinity and shear rate increase, the polymer viscosity decreases.
