Abstract

The formation of scale in the production pipeline is a problem that often occurs in the oil and gas industry, the scale formed can inhibit the fluid flow rate in the flowline , reduce the diameter of the pipe and cause damage to production equipment. Scale reduction is generally overcome using hydrochloric acid (HCL) and ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA 2Na). In this study, rambutan peel extract was used with a mesuration process and used as an organic acid to reduce scale , where the compound used was tannic acid (weak acid). The results of testing for tannins in rambutan peel extract using uv-vis spectrophotometry obtained 21.63% contained in the sample extract. This study discusses the effect of organic acids on scale reduction and compares them with ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA 2Na) using concentrations of 75%, 100% and various immersion times of 10, 20 and 30 minutes. Based on the research that has been done, it is known that the organic acid of rambutan peel extract has an effect on scale reduction , where the reduction efficiency at 30 minutes is 0.266 grams with a reduced percentage of 13.3% and the reduction efficiency using ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA 2Na) at 30 minutes is 0.259 grams with the reduced percentage is 12.95%.
