Abstract

The formation and buildup of scale is a problem that interferes and has an impact on the piping system that is on the surface, both in the flowline production line to the gathering station. Scale can be formed because the content of various compounds that precipitate due to changes in pressure, temperature, or pH which releases dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2) from solution. On generally reduce scale in oil fields using inorganic acids such as HCl, H2SO4 and a mixture of HCl and CuSO4. In this study, the acid used was organic acid from the pyrolysis of oil palm shells and a mixture of organic acid and hydrochloric acid (HCL). The analysis carried out on the organic acid content using GC-MS obtained 76 chemical compounds, among the 76 chemical compounds there were 12 dominant chemical compounds. The percentage of acid compounds is 13.24 %, namely formic acid, carbomic acid and acetic acid with pH = 2.9. The presence of these acid compounds in organic acids can erode and reduce the scale samples obtained from the distribution pipe in the X field. The results of testing the chemical components of the scale samples using XR-F obtained 12 chemical components in the X field scale and the dominant is Barium at 63.8%. The effect of organic acid from the pyrolysis of oil palm shells as a scale reducer was carried out by weighing the mass of the scale before soaking and after soaking with organic acid based on the temperature used. Based on the test results, the increase in temperature has an effect on the percentage of the scale reduction rate. The highest temperature in this study, which was 40°C, was able to produce a scale reduction percentage of 6.30% compared to 5.06% at a temperature of 30°C with an immersion time of only 2 minutes. At a temperature of 40°C by using a reducing agent a mixture of organic acid and hydrochloric acid (HCL 5%) there was a scale reduction of 6.93% compared to 5.68% at a temperature of 30°C and by using a mixture of organic acid and hydrochloric acid (HCL 10%) the results were reduced. scale that occurs is larger, namely 8.08% compared to 6.36% at a temperature of 30°C for 2 minutes of immersion.
