Abstract
A method that used for heavy oil production with viscosity above 1000 cp uses steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD), where this method is done by injecting high quality steam into the injection well zone which is above the production well. The SAGD method is usually executed on horizontal wells that have decreased production. During the injection process, a steam chamber will be formed around the injection well and a heavy oil channel which is heated towards the production well. Some parameters that affect the performance of the SAGD include the oAPI value, injection temperature, steam chamber and vertical distance between injection and production well. In this study, simulation will be conducted to see the implementation of SAGD to 4 types of oil with oAPI values, injection temperatures, and steam chambers at different vertical distances between injection and production wells in 4 fields that are McMurray, San Ardo, Hamaca, and SPE Comperative Case, where the 4 fields are heavy oil fields that had applied steamflood method. Based on scenarios performed on 4 oAPI values (McMurray 7,77 oAPI, Hamaca 9 oAPI, San Ardo 12 oAPI, and SPE Comperative Case 14 oAPI) and injection temperatures (500ºF, 575ºF, and 650ºF), seen the most optimal scenarios in reducing oil viscosity so that the production rate can increase. The oil viscosity numbers before SAGD was conducted in McMurray Field is 12647,7 cp, in Hamaca is 11000 cp,in San Ardo is 5100 cp, and in SPE Comperative Case is 487 cp. From the simulation results carried out in the field (SPE Comperative) 14oAPI, if the field is not carried out injection of SAGD the total production obtained is 2510.86 bbl while if done SAGD with injection temperature of 650ºF the total production obtained is 323,855 bbl, so it can be said that the application of SAGD on this field was successful. In the steam chamber, the most optimum vertical distance in the SPE Comperative Case field is 43.12 ft with a total of 537,323 ft3. Which where the greater the vertical distance of the well, the greater the value of the steam chamber obtained.
