Abstract
This research aims to improve the process and improve the ability of mathematical problem solving skills of students of class X Science Students of Public High School 1 Rokan IV Koto Kampar through an open ended problem approach to improve students mathematical problem solving abilities. The research subjects consisted of X science students Public High School 1 Rokan IV Koto Kampar totaling 25 consisting of 14 male students and 11 female students. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) that consisting of two cycles. Data collection instruments consist of observation sheet and Tests. The data analysis test used in this research is in the form of descriptive data analysis with qualitative and quantitative data analysis. While the test results were analyzed descriptively quantitative to find out the level of students mathematical problem solving abilities. Based on the observation sheet of teacher and student activities at each meeting showed that there was an improvement in the learning process from the first meeting in cycle one to the last meeting in cycle two. The result of this research indicate that an improvement in the learning process from before action to cycle one, cycle one to cycle two, an increase in students mathematical problem solving abilities from the initial test to cycle one, from cycle one to cycle two. The percentage level of student’s mathematical problem solving abilities on the initial test was 52,33%, in cycle one was 68%, and cycle two was 86,33%. So it can be concluded that the application of the approach Open Ended Problems (Open Problem) can improve the learning process and improve the ability to solve mathematical problem of class X Science Students of Public High School 1 Rokan IV Koto Kampar.
