Abstract
One way to get clean or usable water from peat water is by solar water distillation. One model of solar water distillation that can be used is the wick solar stills distillator. The two main processes of solar water distillation are evaporation of water on the water mass absorbing material and condensation of water vapor on the plastic cover. And the slope of the distillator collector can also be a factor that affects the performance of the tool. This study aims to obtain the best angle of inclination of the collector to the performance of the distillator which is suitable for use in the wick solar stills model. This study uses variations in the slope angle of 30º, 35º, and 40º which will be analyzed. This varied slope will affect the performance of the distillator and the quantity of water produced. From the test results, the slope of the collector which has the best performance and the highest water yield in the solar distillation system is at an angle of 40º of 1680 ml with an average solar intensity of 564.277 Watt/m2. This is because the angle of 40º helps the heating process faster and the mass of peat water is absorbed by the heat from the sun. The heating process affects the evaporation energy so that it accelerates the evaporation process of the peat water mass. From the results of tests and calculations that have the best performance on a solar distillator, namely the angle of 40º, because the energy rate during evaporation is 110.00 Watt, the energy rate during condensation is 110.30 Watt, the distillation rate is 0.00000461 kg/s, the efficiency of the product is 33.3%, and the efficiency of the distillation system is 9.12%.
