Abstract

Motorized vehicles and cars are a form of goods as a type of transportation that is very widely used by the community which is increasingly increasing in number and fuel is important because as a source of power for moving machinery. Knocking on the engine is the effect of incomplete combustion in the engine combustion chamber and is very influential on the performance efficiency and increase exhaust emissions. Knocking occurs because the quality of the fuel is low. One way to improve the quality of fuel can be by mixing gasoline with Naphthalene. Where Naphthalene can increase the octane number so that the combustion process is more perfect. This research was conducted to get the effect of Naphthalene mixture with Pertalite fuel on performance and exhaust gas emissions from motorcycles and to get the best Naphthalene mixture with Pertalite fuel which has the best performance and exhaust emissions. This research was conducted using four variations of fuel, namely 1 liter pure Pertalite and 1 liter pure Pertalite with 1 gram Naphthalene, 2 gram and 3 gram at 5000 rpm engine speed and performance testing with Dynamometer and exhaust emissions with tools Gas Analyzer. From the test results that the use of a mixture of Naphthalene with Pertalite fuel has a better effect on the performance and exhaust emissions of pure Pertalite, performance and exhaust emissions the best in the use of a mixture of Naphthalene with 1 liter of Pertalite fuel at the addition of 2 grams which has a torque the highest is 6.46 Nm and the highest power is 4.58 kW and produces the exhaust gas emitted which has the lowest CO gas of 1.89% and the lowest HC value of 1036 ppm.
