Abstract
Compact City emerged as a revitalization of urban sprawl, namely urban problems which resulted in dependence on private vehicles, loss of area and function of green open spaces, and forming irregular city morphology. The potential for applying compact city concepts can be seen through measurements of urban compactness. The city of Pekanbaru is currently experiencing a trend towards urban sprawl development. So there needs to be research on the strategy of implementing compact cities in the city of Pekanbaru based on urban compactness. This study uses a quantitative descriptive research approach, to analyze urban compactness factors using multiple linear regression methods, to analyze the level of urban compactness, the classification method of cluster sturges is used, and to map urban compactness the overlay method is used using the Arcgis 10.4 application. While the qualitative approach is in the form of determining and formulating strategies using the IFAS and EFAS methods. The results obtained in this study, on the analysis of urban compactness factors with multiple linear regression methods obtained 4 factors that influence urban compactness in Pekanbaru City namely: built land density, percentage of built-up land density, percentage of concentration of settlement area and percentage of growth of new settlements. Then in the analysis of the level of urban compactness, each factor is classified by giving values and clusters. The results of the assessment and clustering of each factor are in the form of values and maps which are then overlaid to obtain the results of 5 clusters, Cluster I of land use which is quite concrete so that it is classified as compact, cluster II built up land and high settlements so that it is classified as midle. Cluster III settlements are dense but spread horizontally, Cluster IV is sprawl but the level of density and use of mixed land is quite high, Cluster V is classified as sprawl and the density is still low, mixed functions, and intensification. After knowing the criteria of each cluster, then the formulation of a compact city implementation strategy in the city of Pekanbaru uses IFAS and EFAS methods which produce the following output: Cluster I needs infrastructure improvement evenly, Cluster II needs to optimize mixed land use, Cluster III concept building improvement vertical and development of a compact concept area, Cluster IV enhances the building with a vertical concept and develops a compact concept area, Cluster V needs to increase infrastructure evenly.
