Abstract

Livestock is one of the mainstay sectors for development progress. Dairy cattle are one of the main commodities in the livestock sub-sector that can increase the income of farmers. This study aims to analyze: 1) Characteristics of breeders and business profiles of dairy cattle in Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province. 2) Technical cultivation and use of sapronak in dairy cattle business. 3) Income from dairy cattle business. The method used is a survey method. Samples were taken by census. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that 1) The characteristics of the breeder and the profile of the dairy farming business in Pelalawan Regency: the age of the breeder is classified as productive age, which is an average of 51 years, education is still low (SLTP). The number of dependents in the family is 3 people. Has experience in the dairy cattle business for 7 years. The average workforce owned by dairy farmers is 4 people. Dairy cattle business is a side business with ownership of 7 cows, medium scale business and self-owned business using labor within the family and outside the family 2) Cultivation techniques carried out by farmers are such as cleaning cages, feeding and drinking to dairy cows , maintenance and control of disease and milking cows. The use of production facilities used by breeders is such as dairy cows with an average number of lactating cows, namely 7 cows, 2 calf cows, and reject cows as many as 2 cows. Feed (forage, bran, tofu dregs, sweet potatoes, and corn husks), medicines (vitamins, eggs, antibiotic injections, honey and deworming) and labor are calculated based on the HOK with an average wage of 80,000/HOK. 3) The net income of dairy farmers is an average of IDR 394,333,655/year, with total production costs incurred an average of IDR 221,950,512/year. And the added value of livestock is an average of IDR 78,733,333
