Abstract
This study aims to improve the learning process and improve students' mathematical learning activities through the application of the STAD type Cooperative Learning Model in mathematics learning in VII grade of SMP Negeri 2 Kelayang on material in the form of Algebra. The subjects in this study were students of class VII.C SMPN 2 Kelayang. This research method was conducted using Classroom Action Research. Data collection was carried out from 31 October 2018 to 28 November 2018 which consisted of 2 cycles. Data collection instruments in this study were observation sheets and questionnaires. Data collection techniques in this study were nontest techniques namely observation techniques and questionnaire techniques. Data analysis techniques in this study were qualitative descriptive analysis in the form of teacher and student activities and quantitative data analysis in the form of a student mathematics learning questionnaire. The results showed an increase in mathematics learning activities for VII grade students of SMPN 2 Kelayang. This can be seen from the results of the mathematics learning activity questionnaire before the action was 58.10% with enough categories, after the first cycle was 67.21% with enough categories and after the second cycle was 78.55% with strong categories. From the results of the study and discussion it was concluded that the application of the STAD type cooperative learning model can improve the learning process and increase the mathematics learning activities of Grade VII students of SMPN 2 Kelayang.
